Too often, information and resources can be a barrier to equitable success and inclusion in the sciences. We believe that all students in our department should have access to the best advice, and the resources they need. Below is a list of useful links and contacts

Student Academic Resources

UCSB Transfer Student Center (TSC)
Supports the academic success and well-being of UCSB’s transfer students.

Opening New Doors to Accelerating Success (ONDAS) Student Center
Tutoring, mentoring and professional development workshops for first year students (freshmen and transfers) in core STEM classes.

Campus Learning Assistance Services (CLAS)
Academic/class support via group instruction, one-to-one tutoring and academic skills development.

Educational Opportunity Program (EOP)
Support to students (especially low-income and first-generation)  through mentorship, academic programs, counseling/advising, and social/cultural programming. 

McNair Scholars Program
Prepares first-generation, low-income and/or underrepresented undergraduates for PhD programs.

Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement (MESA)
Academic support and mentoring from high school to UCSB STEM; focus on first-generation, low-income and/or underrepresented students.

Student Research Resources

UC LEADS Program
UC LEADS Scholar embark on a two-year program of scientific research and graduate school preparation guided by individual Faculty Mentors. Scholars receive stipends, professional development, mentorship and skills development.

Early Undergraduate Research Experience and Knowledge Acquisition (EUREKA) Program
Introduces first-year students to science community on campus and provides exposure to research through academic year internships. 


CAMP Research Apprenticeships (California Alliance for Minority Participation)
Summer Research Program provides a 10 week intensive research experience in a UCSB lab for CAMP eligible students interested in a career in science, engineering, technology or mathematics.

Overview of undergraduate research opportunities on campus, including funding and portals for finding a project/advisor.

Student Wellbeing Resources

Basic Needs
Information about food options/insecurity, housing, and financial resources.

Title IX
Port of call for any sort of gender-based misconduct or discrimination.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)
Provides short- and long-term counseling, therapy, Community Referral, ADHD screenings. Free at the point of service; University registration fees cover the cost of counseling. Phone: 805-893-4411

Campus Advocacy, Resources, and Education (CARE)
Addresses prevention and intervention of sexual assault, relationship violence, stalking and harassment. All services are free and confidential and are available to students, staff, and faculty of all identities.
