Toshiro Tanimoto

I am a seismologist, interested in understanding the deep earth structure as well as the near-surface environment. A specialist on Earth’s global oscillations and propagating seismic waves, I have worked on oscillations of the whole Earth after giant earthquakes, the continuous background oscillations of the Earth about period 100 sec, and more recently on shallow seasonal and secular changes in permafrost areas in the polar region. I am fascinated by the unique perspectives that seismic data can provide for physical processes on the Earth.
